MINISTRY GETS STAFF ACQUAINTED WITH THE USE OF COMPUTER
Following the Governor Godwin Obaseki’s vision of transiting the Edo State Civil Service from analogue to digital system of operations and the recent set up of the Ultra Modern ICT Unit in the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry has engaged in training and retraining of staff on the use of computer for the enhancement and effective discharge of duties.
The training which took place in the Ministry’s auditorium featured different levels of officers as participants.
While speaking on the efficiency of the use of computer, the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Infrastructure, Engr. Ferguson Enabulele said that, the use of ICT will assist and improve the delivery of services in public service due to its high quality of data processing. Adding that globally, computer has become a major vehicle of transition from the industrial age to the information age were information is easily disseminated.
Also speaking during the training, Mr. Osazuwa Noruwa, the head of ICT Unit set up in the Ministry of Infrastructure , lectured the participants on the use of computer. He noted while lecturing that computer is an electronic device that stores, retrieves, and processes data, and can be programmed with instructions. Adding that computer is composed of hardware and software, and can exist in a variety of sizes and configurations.
According to Mr. Noruwa, the purpose of the training is to enhance the proficiency of the staff in computer operation and to fit into the new phase of operation in the civil service, as the state government is set to transform the civil service operations with the global ICT standard.
Mr. Noruwa also said that the training is a continuous process, as there would be a computer training work room, were staff would often go to practice what they have been thought during the training process and get acquainted to the computer.
He further said that the Unit has come up with a whatsapp group for participants, for free communication and feedback.
The training also encompassed the use of slack for staff operation, which enable staff in Edo State Civil Service to have a free flow communication.
