The Ministry of Finance Edo State came into existence upon the creation of Edo and Delta State from the defunct Bendel State on the 27th August, 1991. At creation, it was known as Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, thereafter the Ministry of Budget was created from it. Both Ministries are now separate and independent.


The Ministry of Finance exercised oversight responsibilities over revenue generating Ministries, parastatals and Agencies including the Accountant General Office, the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, though it became autonomous agency of Government in 2015 during the Administration of Governor Adams Aliu Oshiomhole but it still renders it Internally Generated Revenue reports to the Ministry.



The Revenue Division apart from providing advances, it is also charge with the responsibility of monitoring Government Revenue viz-a-viz Revenue from FAAC and internally Generated Revenue (IGR). It also monitors Revenue Generating Ministries, Departments and agency and also suggest ways to improve Internally Generated Revenue of Government.
